No, seriously, I do. I LOVE cake, you really have no idea how much....

Welcome to my new blog. I should let you know that my passion for cake began in the winter of 2006 after the birth of my second son. I found a cake that I love and then ate it every day....EVERY day...I kid you not! From there I began looking at cakes in whole new way and found that I really appreciate a good cake. I have recently started a cake decorating course and hope one day to be the maker of my own delicious cakes; to make them not only for myself but for others to enjoy too (yes! I have finally decided to share!!). Follow me in my journey from cake connoisseur to cake decorator!! Enjoy...I know I will!!

A dress fit for a Princess!

I love birthdays! Especially those of the most important people in my life :)  The next best thing to giving someone a gift they love is making someone a cake they love!

Instead of a cake, Little Bean decided she wanted cupcakes for her birthday party. She wanted a pretty cupcake dress and I found one online that she loved.

I started by organizing them how I would want them to look.

Then I realized this was a large sized creation and I would not be able to use my standard cake carrier. I had to get creative so I decided to use this:

And this:

I cut the box and opened it up to lay flat on the cupcake pan:

And then covered it with foil.

I'm pretty brilliant. Lol.
And it was pretty much easy going from there. I made a double batch of butter cream icing and decorated the first 12 cupcakes white. Then I progressively added more pink to give the dress and "ombre" look.

Then I of course had to start making it more "Princessy" for my special girl.

I put some saran wrap across the middle cupcakes and put the bedazzled belt across. It was something I found the scrapbooking section of Walmart. I put a dab of icing on the "belt" and put the fake flower on high enough that it would not touch the cupcakes. I picked up a tiara and wand set at the dollar store and washed them in hot soapy water. I used them as accents to complete the full princess look:

Ava and all here little girlfriends from school just loved the cupcake dress and had a fabulous time at the party!

Now to start prepping for the boys cake!

Cuppycakes for baby bean!

Today is Ava's 6th birthday!! She decided ages ago that she wants a "cupcake cake" for her birthday and listening to her try to describe it to me was priceless. Thankfully I already knew what she was talking about (cupcake tear-away cake). In anticipation of a day of baking the day before her party I stopped by Michaels to look for some supplies and I found some fun things!!!

First, I decided that on her actual birthday, today, it would be fun for her to bring in some mini-cupcakes for her classmates in the daycare as well as her JK/SK class. While shopping I came across these must haves:

A teeny baby muffin/cupcake tin. It is SO cute!!! And I was super excited to find an attachment for my icing bags that I can use to fill the cupcake cups..it makes filling them SO much easier!! I loved using it, way less mess!

Here we have the teeny baby cupcakes. I love how tiny they are. Small things amuse me.

Basic icing job on the cuppycakes and the kids added the sprinkles. Ava did a combination of hearts, flowers, butterflies and Oliver stuck with the confetti circles. They did a great job!!

I dropped them off for the kids at school this morning and won't find out till end of day how they were. They looked and smelled yummy!

Random Baking

Last Christmas Ava decided that the cake for Christmas should be a snowgirl.
I sometimes have left over icing and just need to use it up. This calls for horrendously over-iced cupcakes!!

Oliver is ate!

Okay, so Oliver turned 8 but his cake got ate! Who doesn't love a good Sponge Bob cake?? I love Sponge Bob and this cake was fun to make..I was so nervous he was not going to look like he should but he turned out just fine! And yummy!

Ava's fifth birthday party was at the movies and the group of kids watched Rio 2. We love the Rio movies and Ava loves the birds, especially Jewel. Ava requested that her "Jewel" inspired cake be pink (of course!) and how could I say no??
Oliver's seventh birthday party was at the movies and they watched Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs 2. So I made a cake with large meatballs (and some spaghetti! ) on a field of grass. The kids loved it!

Sadly I was not able to make a cake for Ava's fourth birthday party :( I made the unfortunate error of walking past the cake section of Walmart with her in tow and she LOVED a cake she saw there. It turned out okay though because I had so many other things I needed to make for her circus theme birthday party. My most favorite goodie I made was chocolate dipped Licorice. YUMMY!!
Another excuse to eat cake in my house is the bringing in of a new year!! I love making little flowers.

Christmas Cake! But not actual Christmas Cake because frankly, that's gross. I believe I made this fella Christmas 2011.
